Twisted Lunge

Turns the upper back while the front of the back hip opens underneath.

Twisted Lunge, standing position

30s each side hold · standing

Hand down. Top arm up. Turn from the ribs.

  1. Step one foot forward into a lunge, the back leg long behind you and the back heel lifted.
  2. Bend the front knee until it sits over your ankle.
  3. Bring the opposite hand to the floor inside your front foot.
  4. Turn your chest open, reach the other arm straight up, and settle.

Tips: Keep the front knee stacked over the ankle rather than out past your toes. Set the bottom hand down first, and turn once you are settled there. Let the turn come from the ribs. Both hips stay level.

Easier: Rest the bottom hand on a block or a stack of books. Drop the back knee to the floor. Keep the top hand on your hip instead of reaching up.
