Single Leg Stand

The simplest way to work on your balance.

Single Leg Stand, standing position

30s each side hold · standing

One foot up. Steady yourself.

  1. Stand tall with something to hold nearby.
  2. Lift one foot off the floor, knee bent.
  3. Find a still point to look at and hold.
  4. Let the small wobbles happen without fighting them.

Tips: Stand beside a counter, or a sturdy chair against a wall, and keep a hand on it until you feel steady. Wobbling is the work, not a mistake. Looking at a fixed point makes this noticeably easier.

Easier: Keep a hand on a counter, or a sturdy chair against a wall. Lighten it to a fingertip as you get steadier. Hover the lifted foot just above the floor.
