Isometric Neck Hold

Builds strength in the muscles that hold your head up.

Isometric Neck Hold, standing position

60s hold · standing

Press your hand into your head. Nothing moves.

  1. Sit or stand tall, and rest one palm flat against your forehead.
  2. Press your head forward into your hand and your hand back, so nothing moves.
  3. Hold for a slow count, then move your palm to the back of your head and do the same.
  4. Finish with one side of the head, then the other.

Tips: Press at about a quarter of your strength. Gentle is enough to do the work. Nothing should move. If your head is travelling, ease off the pressure. Keep breathing through every hold. It is easy to hold your breath instead.

Easier: Sit down and rest your elbow on a desk. Use two fingers instead of a whole palm for less pressure. Take the four directions across the day rather than all at once.
